Airlines

The three main airports which are closest for getting to Loch Lomond are Glasgow International / Edinburgh International and Glasgow Prestwick. Below are some of the airlines who fly into all three.

Directions to Loch Lomond by car

From Glasgow Airport

Take the Greenock exit onto the M8, follow the signs for the Erskine Bridge, take the Dumbarton / Crianlarich exit onto the A82 and follow the signs for the North. The road will take you through Dumbarton and onto the Alexandria bypass. You will then arrive at a roundabout which can take you down into Balloch where Loch Lomond Shores, The Loch Lomond Sealife Centre, Balloch Tourist Information Centre and Sweeney's Cruises are based. If you continue on the A82 you will head towards Luss, Inverbeg, Tarbert, Ardlui and beyond.

From Glasgow

From the city centre, join the M8 westbound. Leave at junction 30 on to the A898, following the signs for the Erskine Bridge and Crianlarich. Once on the A82 follow as above.

From Edinburgh and Edinburgh Airport

On leaving Edinburgh, take the M9 towards Stirling, take exit 10 following the tourist route signs to Loch Lomond, this takes you onto the A811, remain on this road, following the signs to Balloch. At Balloch follow the sings for A82 and at junction head north for Crianlarich.

From the South

Follow the M6/A74 north until it meets the M8 then follow the directions above.

Trains

We have an excellent train system in Scotland both nationally and locally. Glasgow Queen Street offers a direct train service to Balloch Central, which takes you right into the heart of Balloch. If your train from across the UK arrives at Glasgow Central it will be only a short walk or taxi trip to get you to Queen Street. Trains to Balloch Central run every half hour from 6am in the morning until 11.33 pm at night. Each train departs at 23 minutes past and 7 minutes to the hour.

Ferries

Your guests may take the short journey across the Irish Sea to Troon and Stranraer in Southern Scotland. These are the two operators who sail here. Loch Lomond is a 78 mile drive from Stranraer and 33 miles from Troon.
